Using Kinro

Documents

Share policies, declarations pages, certificates of insurance and loss runs with Kinro.

Users can share insurance documents with Kinro: a current policy, a declarations page, a certificate of insurance (COI), a loss run, or a photo of one. Kinro reads the original document with its own document analysis and keeps it with the user's request, so its advice and quotes rest on the document rather than a summary.

Sending a document

Pass documents in the files argument of ask_kinro, alongside the user's message. Give each file in one of two ways:

  • As data, from any agent: put the file's contents, base64-encoded, in data. A data: URL such as data:application/pdf;base64,... also works.
  • As a download link, in ChatGPT: pass the download_url and file_id ChatGPT supplies. Kinro opens download links only from ChatGPT's file storage.
FieldWhenDescription
dataInline filesThe file's contents in base64.
download_urlChatGPT filesChatGPT's short-lived HTTPS link to the file.
file_idChatGPT filesChatGPT's ID for the file.
mime_typeOptionalThe file's type, if known.
file_nameOptionalThe file's name, if known.

Use data or download_url for each file, not both.

Limits:

  • PDF, PNG or JPEG only, checked from the file's contents.
  • Up to 25 MB per file and 5 files per message.
  • A request with inline files must stay under 30 MiB in total, including the JSON and base64 overhead. That leaves room for about 22 MiB of original file bytes across the whole request. Sending a file alone does not bypass this limit: use smaller documents, or ChatGPT's download-link flow for a larger supported file.
  • No password-protected PDFs.

Pass each file as it is, even when your agent can read it itself. Do not pass files unrelated to the user's insurance, or identity documents such as a driver's license.

When a document is refused

If a document is refused because of its type, size, encoding, source, or a daily limit, or because documents cannot be received right now, the message is not sent and the result says why. A conversation may already have been opened; keep any conversation_id returned with the error. Tell the user, and send the message again without the file if they want to continue.

How documents are used

Kinro stores each document with the user's insurance request, reads it, and uses what it finds to answer questions and prepare quotes. Kinro may share a document's contents with the carriers it requests quotes from, as needed to quote. Download links are never stored or logged. See Trust and data.
